For the fisherman sport has utility—it feeds their family. For the runner in Kenya—it gets her to school. The Afghan horse polo player maintains a cultural heritage nearly lost to generations of war.
Across the world, sport has a meaning beyond just entertainment. If you speak the language of sport, you can drop into any culture and communicate through an ancestral activity that transcends language. This show isn’t about flashy athletes from the northern hemisphere going to cool places and saying ‘wow”. Whether it’s running as a way to escape domestic violence, or skiing as a way to study animals in a more effective way, this show is about how sport transcends beyond “just a game’ and becomes a tool for change.

BOMBS OVER ALEPPO: THE WHITE HELMETS
White Helmet Deputy in Aleppo, Ismail Abdullah served as a guide to Aleppo.
The White Helmets received praise as well as criticism for their work in Syria, bearing the weight of targets of the Assad regime, and being called angels for the heroic acts they perform, saving many Syrians, all victims to the large scale bombing campaign throughout Syria.
At the height of the conflict, it was estimated that the White Helmets saved roughly 65 people a day. Abdullah deals with the trauma of this work, and explains the challenges his people face
As the war evolved, The White Helmets inevitably had to cooperate with the various rebel factions in Syria’s disputed territories. Abdullah describes how difficult it was for the groups to agree on democratic representation for the state:
“In the first place you’re refusing to include politics in the revolution and nobody is showing they’re belonging to a party or ideology, no one dare say I’m a secular, democratic, civic, leftist, rightist, they don’t dare do that.” says Abdullah.
It is this fear of belonging to a party that the international community can attach an agenda against, that has plagued the revolution from the beginning. This is the story of volunteers battling this predicament, with the core objective to protect their neighbors.
BOMBS OVER ALEPPO: AL QUDS HOSPITAL

From the surgeons in the hospitals to the ambulance drivers rescuing victims of air strikes, these personal stories were collected as part of the filming of Hell On Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS
This piece follows the stories of one of the most dangerous professions in the world: Syrian humanitarian workers serving in the medical field in Aleppo.
Most doctors have left the country, but these heroic volunteers have stayed in Syria to serve their country during the brutal ongoing civil war.
BOMBS OVER ALEPPO: CASTELO ROAD
The segment on Castelo Road is an extension of the work that the White Helmets do outside of just rescuing victims of airstrikes. As the Assad Regime gained territory into northern Syria, they laid siege to the country’s second largest city Aleppo, by cutting off its main supply route for humanitarian aid: the infamous Castelo Road. This segment is the story of those amazing volunteers, working tirelessly to keep the route safe and clear in order for aid convoys to enter the city.
